Welcome to Yalata Anangu School

Yalata Anangu School is a birth to 12 site in the Anangu Lands Partnership situated 200km west of Ceduna, South Australia on the Eyre Highway. Yalata is approximately 1000km North of Adelaide. Yalata Community has a population of around 250 people. It has a general store, youth shed, aged care facility, women’s centre and a church.

Yalata Anangu School has a Child Family Centre with a playgroup for birth to 3 year olds, and preschool 3-5 years old. The school caters for Reception through to year 12 and has a FLO program for year 10-12 facilitated by a youth worker. Students are provided with the opportunity to connect with other educational opportunities through the Wiltja Boarding program at The Avenues School in Windsor Gardens Adelaide, The Trade Training Centre at Umuwa and TAFE SA.

Yalata Anangu School focusses on Literacy, Numeracy, Science, Health and PE and Language and Culture. We use a range of programs including Little Learners Love Literacy, Words their Way, MultiLit, 2-Way science and Learning Through Doing maths pedagogy to engage students in culturally appropriate pedagogy. There is a strong focus on assessment and tracking and monitoring student learning.

The school values are Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be a Learner and encompass all that we strive for at Yalata Anangu School. The school provides programs that promote active participation and positive outcomes for students in a safe, supportive and well-resourced learning environment.

The staff are a strong team of both Anangu and Piranpa educators. Each learning space has a teacher and an Anangu Educator who plan and program together to provide a culturally responsive and engaging program. All staff access training and development online or face to face in Adelaide or across the Partnership and we have a collaborative relationship with Oak Valley as we often share students who are transient at times.

Communication between the school and community is a priority and fosters a strong working relationship between the school and families. The students present at assembly weekly with once per term assembly in community which families are invited to celebrate student achievement. We communicate via Social Media and utilise the See-Saw application to allow families to monitor student progress.
